TWP is not sold wholesale, but retail. Contact manufacturer for a location.

Like many of your site members I too have been overwhelmed by the options available to the DIY homeowner. So hats off to your site for the honest feedback.

I live in NE Ohio, the pressurized deck is 20 years old and still in pretty good shape. Parts of it gets full sun, other parts only the evening sun and part of it under a tree in the shade.  5 years ago I belt sanded the entire flat surfaces of the deck. I've only used Olympic Maximus semi-transparent Carmel on it, staining it every 2-3 years and have been pretty pleased with the consistent results. No blistering, fading, etc.... Spindles haven't been done in many years

I'm looking at going with an opaque stain and not certain if I can go directly over the top of the current stain with only using a pressure washing as a prep. Talking to "stain experts" in stores I'm not overly convinced I'm getting good consistent info.

In reviewing stains TWP has certainly got my attention. Can I go directly over current stain with a TWP product? If so, which one would you recommend? If not a TWP product, I'm open for suggestions. Finally, short of stripping the entire deck what would need to be done as prep? Thanks!

If using TWP, you will need to remove all of the current stain.

If using a solid stain, just pressure wash off the dirt and any loose/peeling stain.

Try the Flood Solid stains or Deck Revive by Gulf.

Having a pressure treated deck installed in TN.  Per your website, you recommend using Armstrong Clark within 2-3 months or Timber Oil as soon as 1 month.  Armstrong is listed in your Top 5 stains, Timber Oil is not.  Then.....you rate highly Defy as a water based stain.  Can/should Defy be used on new wood?

You say it is necessary to strip old coating before switching brands.  With all this info, I would like to use what is best for a new deck and stick with that brand.  What is your best recommendation?

Defy does not work as well with new wood in our opinion.

Try the AC.

What is the best deck stain to use that is VOC compliant. I live in NJ. It has been power washed down to the natural wood. Note this is not new wood.

TWP 1500 or Armstrong Clark is what we would suggest.

I lI've in  RI. Deck gets full sun half day, plus New england winters. I just bought house and am not sure of the wood type or age, but it appears to be in good shape (pics attached). Some mild splitting on the rails. I will power wash and want to stain. I figure semi-transparent to avoid peeling. I am not to handy and wld prefer to be able to reapply with only powerwashing. I'm looking at Cabot, Flood, PPG from Home depot, Benjamin Moore Arborview, Defy Extreme, or Sherwin Williams Superdeck. Suggestions? Thanks.

Hi, I just purchased a home in RI with what I believe is a Mahogany deck and porch.

I found a painting log from the previous owner and it says Arborcoat Mahogany Translucent was applied in Spring of 2014, and 2015. The covered front porch is in great shape, but the back deck is faded. I was about to go pick up a couple of gallons of Arborcoat and then I saw the Arborcoat feedback.....The non-horizontal surfaces still look good.

What should I do? Is sanding required?

I need to be able to buy locally and TWP and Armstrong are only available online. What's the next best option, please?

Strip and brighten for the prep and sand only if needed after. Based on the picture, most should come off during the stripping.

I live in  RI. Half of the deckDeck gets full sun half day rest is shaded (so uneven wearing), plus New england winters. I just bought house and am not sure of the wood type or age, but probably older pressure treated.  Likely installed in the mid 1990s. Some mild splitting on the rails, otherwise in good shape. I want to stain. I figure semi-transparent to avoid peeling. I wld prefer something that let's me reapply  with only powerwashing. Hi. Need stain help

Northern Michigan with in 29 feet from a lake

partial sun

cedar deck

some mold/mildew

The main issue is peeling with previous stains. I have refinished the deck two times, stripped, sanded and brightened before applying Cabot semi transparent stain. I am in the process of stripping this stain off (some areas are not peeling) I'm looking for a stain that will not peel.

Thank you.
