5. Main Issues with Previous Stains is peeling - Sherwin Williams DeckScape
I stripped 3/4 of my deck last fall then winter set in causing me to have to finish stripping the remainder this spring. I'm leaning towards the TWP 100 series stain and will use their brightener first. Presently there is a marked color difference between the part of the deck I stripped in the fall as opposed to what was recently stripped. Will the brightener likely even it out or should I wait for fall to allow for summer sun to hopefully even out the color of the deck boards prior to staining?
Best to just finish the stripping and clean the other half. Brighten all when done and it should look even.

Great website. I live in Canada near the ocean and have a four year old covered deck 1200 sq ft that we are re-staining. I have already ordered the restore-a-deck stripper and brightener to remove the old Benjamin Moore alkaloid stain.
I am leaning towards Armstrong Clark semi transparent for the deck but my wife wants the rails and balusters in a white stain…what would you recommend as a good "white" stain for the rails and balusters
Thanks
Illinois Full sun Pine 30 yrs old Peels up in traffic area I've use Thompson and Sherwin Williams. Ive used cleaner like it said and scrubbed. What would be my best stain.

Did all of the old stain come off? TWP 1500 would be a good option.
No,the only parts that comes off is the high traffic area. The stain is still on most off it.
You have to remove all the old stain if you want to switch brands.
Last yr. I used Olympic Maxium solid color stain on my deck. I do not like the color so want to change it and I have several places that the paint has already peeled off. Should I just clean the deck good and then re-paint or do I need to sand those places? I live in NC and get alot of sun on this deck.
The problem is it will just peel again unless you remove all of the Olympic by sanding.
I bought a house in December. There are two decks that had been installed the previous May (one year ago). The previous owners did nothing to the decks and told me that they should be stained this June -- so 13 months after installation.
There are already splinters and splits so it seems like something should be done soon.
1. State you live in: Massachusetts
2. Full Shade, Partial Shade, or Full Sun: all three, depending on area and time of year
3. Type of Wood: Printed on wood: SPIB PREMIUM R.E.D. KD 19 HT
4. Mold or Mildew Issues: A little
5. Main Issues with Previous Stains: There were no previous stains

What should be done now to fix the damage that's been done and to protect it.
Also, is it OK to sand off the writing on the deck? It's in a very visible spot.
Thank you for your assistance.
Cleaners will not remove the stamps but sanding will. Problem is if you spot sand than the stain will absorb differently, creating spots. Best to sand these off now. Wait a month and clean and brighten the deck with a Restore A Deck Kit. Stain with TWP 1500 Series.
Do you have any performance info on Pittsburgh Paints Sun Proof semi-transparent Alkyd/Oil Stain. I live in Alaska and can't find a supplier that will ship any of your higher rated products to Alaska, so I'm left with Lowes or Home Depot products, but there is a local supplier that sells Sun Proof stain.
We have tried it once with average results. Better than anything at Lowes or HD.
