I live in Anchorage, Alaska
So we have full sun 23 hours a day in the summer
Brutal cold temps in the winter with snow against vertical fence surfaces causing wood to get wet during melting of snow.
I have newly constructed rough sawn cedar fence that I want to protect.
Question #1: How much does wood need to dry before staining? It is moist enough that a when you run a screw into it will have a teardrop or water come out as the screw compressed the wood.
Question#2: For this rough sawn cedar vertical surface in the climate here what is the best protection in a semi-transparent product?
Question #3: Best way to apply recommended product to this rough surface? Thanks

You cannot stain wood if the moisture content is higher then 17%, Not sure what stain brands you can get there. I would look at TWP 1500 if possible. Spray on then back brush.

I notice that the instructions for TWP 1500 say to get the new wood wet at least twice, then allow to dry. This is to open the wood to allow better absorption? Is that really needed with the rough sawn cedar? I haven't yet found TWP available here. What would be a good second choice?

Rough sawn wood can be stained right away. I have no idea what is sold in Alaska. Sorry.

I live in Burlington, Ont, Canada, recently just built a cedar gazebo, with cedar interior tougue and groove cieling, what product would you recommend to stain it. Just want a natural look.

Live in Kansas
Full sun
Yella Wood
Installed October 2012.
No mold or mildew
Never stained
Is it safe to use TWP 1500 now, and do I need to use Gemini Restor a Deck Kit beforehand since it is new and not previously stained?

1. New York State
2. Partial to Full Shade
3. Mostly Cedar. Some pressure treated
4. Mildew/Mold staining

Which stains do you recommend

I live in northeastern Wisconsin. I am building a screen porch (screens, no windows). The floor and supports will be made from pressure treated wood. The interior walls and ceilings will be pine car siding, and the window frames will be cedar. I am wondering how best to finish the wood and when I should do it. We will be building the porch during the month of August this year.

Please help - live in central Florida - have very long dock just been pressure cleaned & a few boards replaced (pressure treated lumber). Please recommend wood stain (assume oil based?) to apply to preserve wood - most of deck in full sun. Thank you!

I would try the Armstrong Clark in a semi-solid or TWP stains.
