Hello, we stained our deck in September 2020 with Behr semi-transparent deck stain (Cordovan Brown color). We have experienced major peeling and fading/wearing away in these 7 months. We need to stain again, obviously using a different brand since this one performed so badly.
We live in Missouri. The floor boards are made from pine, and I’m sorry, but my Dad could not remember the exact wood type of the handrails. He said it was one step higher in quality than pine. The deck gets full sun. I would like to use a product that has a similar dark brown color.
Please advise on the best way to prepare the deck before staining (ie. how to remove old stain, cleaning, etc.), and also recommend which products would be best...preferably something that I can buy locally as I will want to look at color options in person.
Thank you!
This is not an easy strip as the Behr is filming on top of the wood like a solid stain. You most likely cannot strip it all off. Best to remove as much as you can with stripping and then sand off the rest. Use the Restore A Deck Stripper with both additives:

The Restore A Deck Brightener after to neutralize. Stain with TWP 100 Series or TWP Semi-solid Stains.
