You would need to strip off the Sikkens if switching for maximum results. I am not sure what is available to you in Windsor as far as quality stains.

Is there any way around stripping the sikkens paint and avoiding stripping and a product that can be applied over top the sikkens without having to prep. the wood first?

If i do need to strip the sikkens what is the best product for stripping sikkens before applying the TWp stain. I think this stain seems to have great ratings and would be great for our deck.

I am in Oregon and have two cedar decks to stain. One that was built last year in September and the other that I am just finishing. The first one is graying just a little bit. Both decks get partial sun. I was thinking of putting Flood CWF-UV or UV5 transparent stain on both. I would like the deck to be a lighter color since I like the look of the cedar.

Candace, you cannot apply another stain on top of a old stain and expect it to work correctly. You would need to strip it off.

For your area I would look at either the Defy Extreme or the TWP 1500. It is hard to do a "pattern". It can be done but you will need to take great care not to overlap or drip stain into the area you do not want the colors. We personally have never done it before.

My contractor uses Sikkens. Has anyone used Sikkens? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

We live in Saskatchewan, Canada and have a pressure treated fence in it's second year, looking great, but ready to be stained for protection. We ordered samples of Armstrong-Clark (Cedar tone, Redwood tone, Cedar Semi and Amber). They are all slightly more orange/red than I was hoping for, as I was wanting a subtle warmth. I had assumed that the "natural transparent" stain would go on clear, without altering the appearance of the wood, but I realize now that this might not be the case. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the natural tone and would be able to indicate if it would apply any tint/sheen to the wood. We are a little time crunched to order another sample. Thanks!

Natural is very lightly tinted. It does not have a sheen. Being the lightest color it will fade the fastest as well as it has less solids to block UV graying.

New wood should weather and dry out for a few months. Clean and brighten for the prep. Look at a lightly pigmented stain from Armstrong Clark.
