I made the mistake of using Benjamin Moore Arborcoat Solid Stain that I now see as not recommended! It has held up fine, but it is time to re-stain and looking to switch to a recommended brand!

In a perfect world, I would strip and sand to remove the solid stain, but it sounds like a lot of effort to remove solid stain and I really don't have the time to put in that level of effort. If I wanted to change the stain to a recommended brand, should I strip what I can and just get a similar color of a recommended brand? Or do I need to fully strip/sand to change solid stain brands?

Any advice/help is appreciated!

I should note it was Benjamin Moore Arborcoact SEMI-Solid stain, not solid!

You will have to fully remove it. Strip what you can and then sand the rest off.
