I need to apply a maintenance coat of stain (same TWP 102) and I am needing advice on the cleaning. The deck was re-floored about three or four years ago and it appears to have no mold or graying but I need to remove the furniture to check for fading. If no fading is evident, what would be the best way to simply clean the deck before a maintenance coat of stain?

If the wood has faded or I discover problems after a simple clean (as recommended above), what would be your suggestion?

If it has been 3-4 years then you will need a recoat of the same. Use the Gemini Restore Kit and light pressure wash for the prep.

TWP 100 Maintenance...North Georgia; covered dock, gangway, steps, 1500sf deck; 15 year old treated pine;

2 years ago I used Woodrich Stripper then a pressure washer to remove Behr semi-transparent stain and then Brightener with a garden hose on all of this. After 2 days I put on 2 coats of TWP100 pecan, wet on wet. I love it. It held its color and is not slippery. Now it is time for a maintenance coat. I am not sure what to clean it with before the stain. I have read on this sight to “lightly wash”. Do I use dish soap and a soft brush, the Gemini Restore-A-Deck kit, or the Restore-A-Deck Cleaner (half strength) and no brightener - all of which were recommended on this sight.

One 4x15 section of my dock has green algae but the stain seems fine. I read on this sight that I can spray on 1 part Clorox to 4 parts water on that section to kill the algae and that it won’t hurt the wood if I only leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off and then using a cleaner and brightener. Would the Restore-A-Deck products kill the algae without Clorox? The product reviews do not cover this.

How exactly do I “lightly wash” the deck boards before a TWP maintenance coat?

What can I use to kill green algae before a TWP maintenance coat?

Use the Gemini Restore kit and pressure washing for the prep. It will remove the algae as well. Use the pressure washer at normal pressure for this.
