Age old question.  Based on the ratings here they are highly rated and about the same.  So it seems the obvious choice would be water based because of cleanup etc...

do people just choose the oil because its tried and true I am assuming.

If i choose the water based, will I regret not using the tried and true?

Either base is fine as long as they are high-quality stains. There is not one that is better always.

Thanks..Like Moderna or Pfzier..I forgot I already bought a gallon of extreme Defy clear.''in the box still....based on the rating scores here....so i guess i am already committed...my deck is only 1/3 done right now....I just had a thought about Tung oil which I have used...but DEFY looks like it has some interesting stuff or newer thinking I guess you could say.

So I finally decided that I will use tigerwood for my decking.  The price is good and it is readily available in my area with free shipping.  Supposedly 30+ life span, not as much as IPE but prettier.

I have one gallon of the DEFY clear, but I realized they also have a "hardwood" version.  I wonder if I should get the hardwood version and loose my $ on the non-hardwood I have for staining.

You want the hardwood version and one of the tinted colors, not clear.
