I'm surprised I can't find more information & tips on how to protect the metal spindles or balusters during the stripping process. I've read that chemical strippers will take off the powder-coated finish, so please post tips on ways you've been successful in protecting them. (I read some people just wet them first and keep rinsing them; others suggested coating them with a lubricant like WD-40 to repel the stripper. I was thinking of rubbing them with petroleum jelly... ?) Please let us all know what worked for you. (And don't say, "just try power washing instead of stripping." That didn't work, so I need to strip. Thanks!

-Carrie

2yr old cedar deck, full sun, lots of snow in winter, with powder-coated aluminum spindles
