My story is long but I will try and cut to the chase. Used Sherman Williams semi transparent 5 years ago on new white cedar decks. After 3 years it was pealing all over the place. Took over 1 year of power washing and belt sanding(part time) to get almost off the the SW product off my deck. Last year I applied Cabot oil based stain just to the floor on one deck, cedar color(still available then) and after 1 year it looked horrible, wore off and turned black.
My question is that I just finished power washing my deck and I want to stain my deck, however, I live in NY so there are restrictions on real oil based products. I see that TWP makes a 1500 that I can purchase and it is not a "true old fashioned oil product". So I was ready to purchase and then I read some comments on the internet that this product can "peal" if not applied properly. Is the 1500 not a penetrating stain? I cannot afford dollar / time wise to put yet another product on my deck that could peal or not last 2 years. Thanks
