I've got a 15 year old shadowbox fence (http://arto.akrondmc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Shadow-Box-Fence-Wood.jpg) made of treated pine posts and 32, clear pine panels.

The fence is prepped and ready to stain but I need some advice on how to go about it. I purchased what I thought was a fantastic Chapin pump sprayer to do the job (https://goo.gl/1FujCH) but found that I was putting a ton of stain on each panel. My first attempt had me putting just about 1 gallon of stain on one panel (both sides) using one of the included fan tip nozzles. So I switched to the adjustable tip nozzle and found that the stain (Benjamin Moore Arborcoat Semi-solid) either fired out in a stream or sprayed on too lightly.

I finally resorted to using a 6" deck stain brush which does a fine job but is a really poor choice for use in between boards.

I could really use some advice on the best way to quickly and efficiently stain this fence. Please note that the fence probably should be torn down and replaced. Since I can't do that right now I'm simply looking to breathe some new life into it and would prefer not to spend more on equipment and supplies than the fence is worth.

I read a post here that stated that stain pads are the way to go but they aren't going to help me get in between each board very well. I had really hoped the pump sprayer was going to work. What do I do here?

Thanks,
