We intend to stain a thirty year old cedar cottage. Some of the siding has never been treated and is heavily weathered and grayed. Most of the wood was stained many years ago with an unknown product. Interestingly, the better protected areas still bead.

The cottage has considerable carpenter bee damage as well as other issues that required spackle, plastic wood, etc. applications. Visually, the structure looks tired and irregular.

We are considering the use of either A&C semi-solid or Flood Pro Series Solid. Our primary concern is peeling. Our secondary concern is durability/longevity.

Questions:

- Will the semi-solid hide color irregularities nearly as well as the solid?

- Will the semi-solid penetrate much better than the solid?

- Is the semi-solid much less likely to peel than the solid?

- Is the new Flood latex still your preferred solid stain?

- Is the solid stain likely to protect far longer than the semi all other things being equal?

Thanks is advance for your reply. As many others have indicated, this is the only online source for consistently reasonable knowledge regarding what is now a sadly complex and confusing subject.
