I have two sample cans (semi transparent black, semi solid black) sitting in my garage that I was all set to try out. Very glad that I've avoided at least that mistake. I am looking for a black, not dark brown stain. Is there anything out there that will work reasonably well on a fence?

Deck and Fence were installed late last spring by the builder. I live in Chicago, so: hot summer, cold snowy winter and plenty of rain and wind. The deck and fence are part sun/part shade. Both get morning sun - the deck gets very little afternoon sun, while the fence gets some afternoon sun. I want to put a gray wash on the deck, so I'm thinking of Defy Extreme Semi-Transparent in Driftwood for that. I'm looking to stain the somewhat cheap looking fence black. I'm sure we'll be replacing the builder-grade, poorly installed, dog-ear, rough-sawn, treated pine fence from Home Depot in the future, so I'm not so concerned about the fact that I can "never go back" once I stain it black. I don't want it to look like paint. Problem is, I can't figure out if there is a product out there that comes in black, that is well-regarded and that will work for this fence. Thoughts? Also, is Defy a good product for the gray wash on the deck? Thanks!!
