So in doing further research with local paint stores and contractors, I learned that, yeah, oil-based products over a rubber roof are definite no-no. They can damage the roof. Fortunately, I learned enough to realize oil was the only thing that was really going to work well, and I was able to figure out a way to get the roof 100% tarped.

So I took your advice and used the AC amber. Great product and OUTSTANDING customer service from the company. After lots and lots of sanding, here's how it came out...

-I'm assuming then that even though it's oil-based, if any drips get on the rubber rood it's not an issue, Has your experience been that it's OK?

-I think I saw in another post that you suggest darker colors for better protection. I want to go with a semi-transparent. Is there anything you've seen that looks particularly good on red cedar (pic of my deck attached).

Thanks again, this site has turned out to be really helpful.
I have a roof deck with a rubber roof underneath. Tough to get a tarp in under it, but might be possible.

-Boston, MA
-Full sun - no shade at all
-Just finished stripping it to bare wood with a floor sander last weekend - I believe the wood is cedar. Previous use of BM Arborcoat did not go well at all.

My questions
-Could you offer a stain recommendation or two?
-Where it's almost completely down to bare wood, do I need to use a brightener?

Thanks!
P.S. Love to hear your comments of Behr being #1 in the new Consumer Reports.
