So it looks like I should get the Restore-a-Deck Stripper/Brightener Package for the old wood.

Would it be better to go ahead and do that now? Or can I wait until after the new wood has weathered, and then strip/brighten the old, so I can all the wood at the same time?

Also, once I build the new part, I'm no longer going to have access to the backside of the fence. Is it better to leave the backside unstained, or would it be better to stain just the back half now, and then stain the face after the 4+ month weather period?

To fix this area that is stained you will need to chemically strip it off. The areas that are older but unstained can be cleaned and brightened for the TWP 1500 stain.

TWP will want a 4+ month weathering and then the prep with the Gemini Restore Kit.

We had a redwood fence built for our front yard a year ago. The contractor used Behr DeckPlus Cedar Naturaltone Wood Finish on the wood before building it. Due to issues with the contractor, we halted the project halfway through. The front was completed, but an 8 foot side fence was left undone.

I'm about to undertake finishing the side fence myself and was researching how best to seal the new fence build, how best to reseal what was already built, should I use the sealant he used, etc., which led me to this site.

The portion of the fence/driveway gate that was already built has faded somewhat, but also the wood is cracking in certain places. (I've attached a pic from the day the fence/driveway gate was finished and then another pic from today.)

Based on what I've read on this site, it seems that the wood should not have been sealed right away (nor should the Behr have been used), but rather we should have had the fence installed, then waited a couple months, and then seal it, is that correct?

And so, to fix the original 1 year old fence, I should use perhaps the Gemini Restore a Deck cleaner and brightener with a pressure washer, wait some time, and then apply a better sealant (I think I can order the TWP 1500 online to Southern California.) Does that sound right? Or is there a better path/alternative for me to take?

And then for the new redwood side fence I'm going to build, I should install, wait a couple months, and then seal with the same thing I used to redo the older fence?

Located in Los Angeles. Pretty much full sun although some parts of fence are more shaded. I don't think there are any mold or mildew issues.
