I just built a patio cover and have 6x6 cedar posts that are in partial shade (full sun most of the afternoon). I'm also planning to put up cedar tongue and groove on the ceiling so that will not be exposed to any direct sunlight or rain beyond humidity. I would like to keep the new cedar wood look and am not looking to change the color or sheen to any great degree. If the wood gets slightly darkened from the stain that is ok, but we would like to keep the color close to new cedar.

I live in the Seattle, WA area so its fairly wet but the posts will get mainly splashing near the bottom (they are anchored 1" off ground contact) as opposed to direct rain. What is the best thing to use to protect all this cedar? I'd rather spend money up front doing it right than having to fix it down the road, so quality over cost. I'd also prefer as little maintenance as possible, but understand anything will need some maintenance, so how often should said product be reapplied?

I see TWP 100 is highly rated. Can this be applied immediately, or does the cedar need to weather first?

Thanks,

Richard
