I've just had a new redwood deck installed in Northern California and it receives full sun for the majority of the day. I've read your fantastic article on how to stain new decks and so im letting it weather for several months before following the procedures outlined in the article.

My question is regarding painting the railings (and I couldn't find the answer on the forum) - we'd like to paint them white. Is this something we can do right away or like staining a new deck do we need to let the railings weather for several months? Could you also recommend a good product for the job?

Thanks
