Since it is only two boards, just stain them now. You will need to reapply another coat to those two boards next Spring.

If I need to replace two floor boards now I'm afraid it will be Fall/Winter by the time it's ready to stain correctly.

 

Would you say a month is the shortest amount of time you would wait to stain new wood?

Letting the wood sit outside to naturally oxidize and weather and then using a deck cleaner and wood brightener to remove the oxidation and mill glaze is the proper way.

My contractor commented on how good the deck looks and stated that I could stain the new posts in a few days. He was told at the lumber yard that a new process is being used to treat the pine wood (Severe Weather, ground contact general use 6x6 posts). I did wait one year after the deck was constructed before applying stain. Are you aware of any changes of how the new lumber is treated? And what would you recommend? Thanks
