I have replaced a portion of the pressure treated decking covered in the Deckscapes water based stain and have stripped others with Jomax strippers. I have installed new PT decking at our home in central NC back in December 2014. I would like to use the same brand stain for each location but unsure if I should go with the TWP 100, 1500, or Defy products, or even consider Armstrong. The decks at the coast get full sun and the deck at home gets morning sun only. And advice on the stain brand to use and should I use a brighter on the stripped and new wood areas? Thanks for your advice!

If not then the only reason to switch to TWP is that I will be replacing a section of decking with new and this was an opportunity to make the change, otherwise I could continue with the WB products but thought of moving away from SW if you could recommend a higher rated brand. Concerning sanding- are you talking about hand (belt sander, etc) or a floor type unit? BTW- this is pressure treated pine in 5/4 and 2" thicknesses.

There is not "super" stripper that works well in every scenario so your best bet is to go in with the assumption you will need to strip a few times and will need to do some sanding as well. we like the powdered strippers (HD80 or RAD Stripper) for jobs like this as we can mix the stripper stronger if needed.

We have NC beach property with 8 year old decking that has been coated with Sherwin Williams water based semi transparent Deckscapes stain. I can agree with your reviews- this stain requires yearly recoats that I fear is just building up layers of stain. I need to replace a section of boards and want to consider switching to TWP, but having never stripped a deck before I feel that this would be a major job considering there are many railings, balusters, and lattice already coated with the Deckscapes. About 80% of the decking looks good so should I be concerned of continuing to use a WB ST stain and if so, is there a "better" brand than the Deckscapes? If you suggest that I convert to the TWP, is there a stripper that will effectively remove the many Deckscapes layers?
