This deck was installed 5 years ago. We made the mistake of sealing the wood when it was likely still green and in cool October weather. The next summer it started to peel. We cleaned, sanded, and restained with the same Sikkens Cetol SRD product. As you can see it has been all down hill since. The two layers never evenly bonded. We've had peeling, darkening, mold, etc except in the areas under the deck boxes!

We plan to unscrew the boards (easily done, we've tested) flip them over, sand or plane them, and start over. Does this make sense?

Product suggestions for a seasonal lake house in Maine? Obviously we know we need to do more maintenance - we gave up last time as we knew we needed to effectively start over some day. That day has come.

Thanks!
