I have a question about larch siding and I am hoping that you might help even though it is not a deck project. The larch is T&G planks that will be installed vertically on a 1800 sq ft house. We are hoping to stain the larch before install to tone down the bright yellow color, and also to help even out the weathering process, which I am told can be long and patchy-looking. We do not want to use a solid stain because we want to see the grain and features, just to help bring the brightness down to a grey-er look.

Here are my questions; 

  1. Is it advisable to stain larch at all?
  2. If so, what is the best stain to use?
  3. Will the stain just slow the weathering process?
  4. How often will be need to reapply?
