Mold or Mildew Issues-None

5. Main Issues with Previous Stains-Poor adhesion and peeling of a recoat by previous owner

The previous owner built the ~1500 sq ft deck and used Cabot Solid Color Oil Decking Stain in Desert Sand. The deck spends a fair amount of time covered in snow in the winter. Considering removing all the boards and planning the top and side surfaces and going back with hidden fasteners to keep the moisture out and make clearing the deck of snow easier.

See attached photos showing the bare wood and peeling coat. Do not really like the solid finish and was hoping to get back to a wood grain and use a quality penetrating finish that can be reapplied with minimal prep work. I am willing to put in the work to do it right and get a long lasting finish. I did not want to just pressure wash and chemically prepare the surface because I believe an inadequate original prep will continue to be a problem. Any suggestions on my options?

Thanks,

Greg in CO

822,821,820
