Hi all,

Just found the forum and hope someone can give some guidance. I am about to put garapa 1x4 T+G in a porch ceiling and along one wall. It is exposed to the weather, but is pretty protected. Currently, there is pine T+G that was stained which I am going to be replacing with the garapa. The pine has retained its stain and actually gotten darker for the last 2 years (so am guessing has not been getting too much direct light since it hasn't grayed?)

My question is what is the best approach to keep the garapa looking like it does like the swatch (no stain or sealer). The swatch look I liked looked very close to clear grain cedar. I tried applying ipe oil to said swatch and it turned out brighter/ enhanced golden/ yellow color. Is there a stain/ sealer I can use to keep it more matted and neutral? Sort of like a clear VG cedar look I wanted?

Not much info. out there on Garapa so hope someone can help me out. I was thinking about TWP1500 in natural stain? Or will that give me the same brighter golden color the Ipe Oil gave? I know it is hardwood so can it even be stained??

Thanks in advance.
