Hi DSH,

Here's me:

Northern California

Shade in morning, bright, hot sun in the afternoon

Redwood

No mildew issues

Deck built in 2012. Has remains of Sherwin-Williams Superdeck Oil-based Clear Redwood stain.

The color is almost completely gone from the top-rails and floors, particularly in the trafficked areas. Verticals all seem fine. I'd like to prep the floor and rails and re-stain the deck with a water-based stain, and try to kinda match the new stain to the verticals (tho that's not critical. As long as they're in the same family). There's no graying.

1) What's the best prep? I have access to a power washer. Do I need to sand out the old stain?

2) Which waterbed stain is best?

262

Many thanks.

C. Durkee
