Hey all, new guy here. I'm new(ish) to woodworking, and about to undertake my first major outdoor project: a decent sized pergola. However, I'm torn up about my best protocol to build/stain/install. Here's what I've got...

Wood: ecolife (EL2) treated...pine I believe, probably SYP. I haven't seen much of it before, but I bought a few planks to play with. It's extremely water repellent, and much lighter (dryer) than normal pressure treated.

Prep: restore a deck clean/brighten kit.

Stain: open for suggestions, but definitely oil based, given the water repellent wood....see details below.

Location: Georgia. Structure will get hot sun 8 to 10 hours per day. Usually doesn't drop below 15 in winter, but summers hit 100-105 routinely. Humid, but not Florida humid.

So basically, I am going to buy wood in the next couple weeks. I am wondering what the best order of operation for me is, and perhaps the best stain for the water repellent wood. The basic steps are weather wood, build, clean, and stain, but in what order...?

1) given that Im building a structure, is there any sense in weathering the wood in it's disassembled state for ease of staining later? I fear I risk warping doing that, even though the EL2 stuff is supposed to resist it, and it comes a bit dryer than normal pressure treated.

2) should I clean and brighten after weathering, or immediately upon delivery? I am pretty sure it is the former, but I am just covering my butt here.

3) for stains, does anyone have any recommendation for the Ecolife wood? Given the water repellency, certainly oil based...but beyond that. I know from reading through the articles that there are stains recommended for "new" wood (e.g. paraffin formulas), but didn't know if the same tactics applied to the EL2 stuff.

Thanks in advance for the help. I have preconceived answers for these, but I am just hoping they align with all of your advice!
