Hi,

Wish I found this forum before I applied Penofin Red Lapel Semi-transparent oil stain today to 140'SqFt, of new Ceder kiln dried 2x4's for my deck restoration project. (staining all 4 sides I now know serves no purpose & a waste of time & $$$).

Oops, the lumberyard store (name withheld) said Penofin & TWP's performance was equivalent and Penofin Red Label was on sale......No mention of penofin failures...

Now What are my options?

A). Strip off Penofin immediately & start over before installation?

B). Install decking & wait 9 months til a expected failure next year & then Strip the top surface & Start over with a semi-transparent oil based Stain (TWP 100/1500)?

C). Semi-Transparent or Solid Color Stain makes no difference to me, just want better waterproofing lifespan & less maintenance.

D). Is there a D)?

Thankyou for any assistance

Sincerely, Rolf
