So I am in a bit of a jam. I stained my deck with Cabot Semi Transparent Deck and siding stain (#0306)Oil based. Following the advice of the paint department I purchased it from I applied a second coat to darken it up. After reading the can I see that a second coat is a no no. So the current state of my deck is one coat on half the deck, two coats on the other half and the stairs are unstained. I'm looking for any advice. Weather is turning in WI, so I may have missed my window to finish it this fall. A few more details below....

1. The stain isn't as dark as I had hoped, hence the 2 coat screw up.

2. The wood is old, it's been pressure washed and sanded.

3. If you can't apply a secod coat right away when can you? 1 year, 2 years?

4. My wife is pissed

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
