We are starting to prep our deck to use semi transparent defy deck stain. Our deck was previously stained by another brand, however, the majority of our deck was faded & grayed so instead of using the stain stripper we used the cleaner. The cleaner got the deck really clean without any of the previous stain except for some areas on the railings and slats. These areas are not flaking/peeling but definitely faded. Do you think it’s okay to go ahead with the wood brightener or should we go back & apply the stain stripper to these areas first?

Last staining was done 3 years ago (Benjamin Moore Alkyd stain). Was done by a contractor. Results were not satisfactory. We are looking to re-stain this summer. The deck is about 18 years old. We live in MA.

I am posting pictures of how it looks currently.

Looking for help on how to clean and prep this deck before re-staining. Is pressure washing with a regular deck cleaner enough?
