I have cleaned and brightened twice using a pressure washer and cannot get ALL the grey out. Vast improvement but still grey areas within the grain. The deck is 6 years old and has never been stained.
1. I understand that I do not want to stain with grey left on the deck. What happens if I do stain with a translucent stain?
2. Even though the Ipe has never been stained would using a stripper instead of a cleaner remove more grey?

I should mention that I have used sodium percarbonate as a cleaner and citric acid as a brightener.

If the gray does not show when wet then it will not show when stained. The stripper will not remove any more.

Thank you for the reply and I will clean again. I have cleaned with 8oz per gallon of sodium percarbonate. In order to clean better should I:
1. increase the sodium percarbonate concentration, if so, how high can I go?
2. If I do not pre-wet, does that help?
3. Should I very aggressively power wash?

The cross grain areas seem to present the most problems.

You cannot increase the concentration any higher, it will not dissolve correctly. Iw ould not be too aggressive with a pressure washer as you do not want to damage the wood. It may be better to buff the wood to remove this. See here for tips: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/wood-fuzzies-furring-on-deck/

Thank you for your prompt reply!

I did read the link, thank you. Is there an appropriate grit selection for this?

You want a sanding pad for a buffer. Use the red or white one. It looks like this.
